The glory of Vijaya Kavacha and Its Composer...

SmaRisi Badukiro... is probably one song which lingers in every ones heart when they bring Sri Vijaya Rayaru to there Smruti.It is composed under "Vysasa vitthala" Ankita by Kallur Subbanna Acharya.

Kallur Subbana Acharya was noted Sanskrit scholer who was contemporory to Vijaya Dasaru period.previously,He did not had any respect for Dasa Sahitya and Hari Dasaru and considerd that Dasa Sahitya was not a Pavitra literary work.Naturally,he did not had any respect for Vijaya dasaru.Once while Subbanna Achar was performing Sudha Mangala, Sri Dasaru went to his home and seeing him ,Subbanna Achar went red and teased him as what was he doing in this gathering and what does he know about Sanskrit Grantha's and Sudha.Seeing this, Sri vijaya dasaru ordered one cook to perform Sudha anuvada who was not having any knowladge and who was illiterate.when sri Dasaru touched him ,he started peoforming Sudha Anuvada fluently and when he told to stop , he again came back to his normal position not knowing what was happening with him.

Seing this ,Subbanna Achar was deeply moved and he fell at the feet of sri vijaya dasaru and obtained Daasa Deekshe from him and took ankita from VenugoPala Dasaru (DiWaan TimmaNaayya ) became a Haridasa and composed many songs under the name of Vyasa Vithala.

Sri Vijaya Dasara Aradhane and how it is performed in Chikalparvi,his birth place

Aradhane is performed in grand scale for all three days in the ShukLa PakSha of Kaartika Maasa ,namely Navami ,dashami and Dwadashi with at most devotion. During the Aradhane,PaaraYaNa of all the 500 plus SamaGra Suladi's of Vijaya Dasaru and HariKathaMruThaSara of Sri Jagannatha dasaru is performed. This process usually kicks of a week before aradhane and will follow through out the event. In the course of time , some learned souls have blessed all of us with Adhyatmic discourses over centuries and it is still going along with the same zeal and passion.Raichur district in general and as a result Chikaparvi is indeed blessed being in the company of learned souls who did great KruShi in Dasa Sahitya and especially in SulaaDis(very distinct literary work which is composed with an aim to make people understand the principles of Dwaita philosophy in depth ).Time and again these people have had paid visits to chikalparvi regularly to attend aradhane.some of the names of these PraTaha SmaRaNiYaRu which i should mention, who have paved the way for Adhyatmic knowledge here are as follows...

During Madhya Aradhane and Uttara Aradhane, Anna SanTarpane Seva is performed by Dasara Vamshikaru. Since few years, PooRva Aradhane Anna SanTarpane seva is given to Sri Lakshmi Narayana Shetty of Manvi upon request.

Important things during Aradhane...

1) AlankaaRa: Alankara to Vijayadasaru is performed in the Ashwatha Vruksha which is a real treat to watch. During this time ,special Pooja to Sri Ashwatha lakshmi Narasimha is performed and Alankaara is also performed for all the days during Aradhane.

2) PallaKKI Seva: PallaKKi Seva is performed in the evening. During this time Taaratamya Bhajane is done along the Prakaara of the Temple. During this time Tottilu Seva to Vijayadasaru is performed.

3)Gopala Seva: During Madhya ARaDhane, Grama PradakShine of the Chikalparvi Village is done by Dasara Vamshikaru along with all the Bhakta Vrunda by singing Devara Haadugalu.In this Pavitra Gopala Seva which is done in order to symbolize the way Sri Vijayadasaru used to go for pavitra Bhiksha to all the homes to collect SahiTya(food grains) for his daily needs. Here people give Bhiksha in the form of Akki and any Dhravya that they want to do it as Seva to vijaya Dasaru and it is spent for the Aradhane celebrations.

Please note that this is the only way any one who wishes can offer there Seva in Chikalparvi for Aradhane celebrations. that is ,they need to offer there Seva in this pavitra Gopala seve which is performed only on Madhya Aradhane.Here no kind of PaTTi or what so ever is carried out for the Aradhane and all the expenses are carried out entirely by Dasara Vamshikaru by the kind grace of Sri Hari Vayu GurugaLu and Sri Vijaya Dasaru.

Any one found collecting any funds in the name of Chikalparvi Aradhane, then please do not encourage them and i urge u to bring it to the notice of this blogger.

It is important to note that not only Brahmins take part in offering Gopala Seva but few people from other casts like Vaishyas also offer Akki to the Gopala Seve which is of significance in Chikalparvi which is carried out since ages.

KaaRtiKa MaaSa Snana:KaaRtika Snana which is found to be very auspicious can be performed in the river Tungabhadra.Throught out the event ,all the important kaartika Maasa related rituals are performed. There is also a place called sri Vijayadasara Gundu in the River where Sri dasaru used to perform Tapassu.

Ekaadashi JaaGaRane : This is one of the event which every one looks forward to in chikalparvi during aradhane. The day following Madhya Aradhane (dashami) happens to be ekadaShi and in the night TaraTamya bhajane is performed through out the night.The rarest of the rare songs which are sung for centuries can be listened coming here. All most every one takes part in this programme and at the end HarivaNa seva is performed.

On following day, that is UttHana DwaDashi, pooja and Teerhta Prasada seva as part of Uttara Aradhane is performed and at the same day TulaSi Vivaaha is also performed.

Sri Vijaya dasa KaRaaRchita PraTiMaaRchaNe: This pooja will be usually performed a day before the beginning of PooRva Aradhane where VijayaDaaSa KaRaaRchita Srinivasa Devaru,Sri Devi ,Bhu Devi and other Pratime's pooja is performed in Dasara Mane(birthplace where these VigRaha's are kept,see the picture down the blog).

Historical significance: once, while performing Shradha Karma of his father, Sri vijaya dasaru invited all the Brahmins to his home to have Teertha Prasada. After performing all the rituals , he said to the assembled Brahmins that he will perform the Pinda PraDana in Kaashi and come back. Hearing this people gathered there took his words lightly and asked how can he go to Kaashi from Chikalparvi and come back. Sri Vijaya dasaru took a plunge into the Tungabhadra river and emerged from Ganga in Kaashi and after doing Pinda PradaNa there he again took a dip in Kaashi and emerged out from the TungaBhadra River in Chikalparvi.As mark to show that he indeed visited Kaashi ,he brought SaaNe KaLLu,IsHwara Linga,and Ganga from there and showed it to all the assembled people in his home. Just goes to show how ApaRoKsha GyanaNi and Devata Purusha he is who had all the SamPoorNa AnuGraha of Sri Hari...

And now:

Every one who comes to chikalparvi takes the Darshan of Saane Kallu kept in his home and it is believed that by taking Akki which is placed in Saanekallu and using it in there home, any kind of VyaaDhi(illness) will be cured. Any Kind of Udara ShuuLe is believed to be cured. Every year thousands of devotees come here and take Akki Placed from Saane Kallu.

Kolar Ram Rao Vakil of Bellary whose wife was ailing from Udara Shoole and all the doctors could not help her cure this illness. Finally she came to chikalparvi and took this Akki from Sane Kallu and all her illness was cured. This is one such small incidence which goes to show the devine power of Sri Vijaya Dasaru.

And very recently, some twenty five years back, when a thief entered Dasara Mane to steal the valuables and other things, he lost his eye sight when he entered pooja room and touched Sane Kallu Kept there. He then immediately shouted telling every one that when i touched this Sane Kallu i lost my eye sight and then he could not move an inch from there. This incidence happened when Mrs. Lakshmi Devi who is a member of Dasara Family was there in home and had witnessed this entire incidence.

Sri Ashwatha Narasimha temple and Vijaya DaSara Katte

Sri Ashwatha Lakshmi Narasimha temple is very pictures and beautiful temple situated near the banks of river TungaBhadra and a big Ashwatha Vruksha surrounding the temple premises makes it even more beautiful. Rightly so because this historic temple is established by Sri Sri Sripada Rayaru and he also planted the Ashwatha VruKsha some 600 years back even before Sri Vijayadasaru could take birth in this village. It is understood that Sri SriPada Rayaru had founded this temple keeping in vision that Sri Dasaru will be taking birth in this place.

It is due to the blessings of sri Ashwatha Narasimha that , AraLLamma and Srinivas Archar( the parents of vijaya dasaru ) gave birth to sri vijaya dasaru.

Here, NaraSimha Jayanti is celebrated in VaiShakHa MaaSa for all the three days and this is also one such event apart from Aradhane which every one attends with much devotion. The rituals such as the birth day celebration of Narasimha Devaru and the marriage with goddesses Lakshmi are performed during the Jayanti and the following day the god is taken to the TungaBhadra River for the Holy Bath. Many people attend this event and then the holy water and the oil applied to the deity is given to all the devotees for performing auspicious AbhyanJana SnaaNa.

During JayanTi ,Anna SanTarPane seva is performed for two days by Sri Hanumesh Rao Kulkarni and family who are native of chikalparvi and one day Anna SantaRpane Seva is performed by DaaSaRa VamshiKaru..
This place(temple PraKaara) is called Vijaya DaaSara Katte as Sri Dasaru used to do TapaSSu on this Katte and AlaNkaaRa is done to the AshWatha VruKsha during AraDhane symbolizing that Dasaru is in this place doing TapaSSu.

Vijaya Dasaru huttida Mane and Mohana dasara katte

In this home Sri vijaya Dasaru spent most of his life time.As mentioned earlier,we can find Saane Kallu and Sri Vijaya Dasa KaRaaRchita PraTime at this place for which pooja is performed annually and also on some special occasions. This home also happens to be the hub for conducting all the Adhyatmic activities regarding SuLaaDi ParaYana and EkaDashi JaaGarane and many religious events around Aradhane and any other similar events as such take place here. This place, over centuries and centuries has witnessed very much Chintana-Manthana about many of the DaaSa Sahitya related events.

It is usual custom not to say NO to any thing that is offered to the visitors when they visit this home as it is not a good custom to reject any thing offered from the home of vijaya DaSaru. People will at least drink water from this place and never go empty handed. In this regard, i am happy to mention that the treatment received by the visitors from this place is very pleasing and all the members of the family are very generous in helping people who come here to do sadhana during Aradhane and Jayanti.The place will be usually opened during Aradhane and Narasimha Jayanti and in other times people can take DarShana of Sane Kallu .

Mohana DasaRa Katte : Mohana Dasaru is The Saaku Maga of Sri Vijaya Dasaru and in the front of the house, there is one small place called Mohana Dasara Katte.It is on this place that the dead body of Sri Mohana Dasaru was kept and Sri Vijaya Dasaru brought his life Back by relieving the ApaMruTyu of Mohana Dasaru.So happy was Mohana DaSaru that he composed the populer song "TanDe VijaYa Rayaa,Nee VyaLekke BanDyo Vijaya Raaya"

How to get there? And whom to contact?

Chikalparvi is in Karnataka and it is at a distance of 55kms from Raichur district and 10 Kms from Manvi town, which is the nearest place to reach Chikalparvi.There are no direct buses from Raichur to Chikalparvi so one needs to come to Manvi from Raichur and then take the buses or private jeeps running from Manvi town. The last bus which leaves for Chikalparvi from Manvi is at 8PM.so make sure u are in Manvi latest by 8PM.

Raichur is well connected by trains and busses. Many trains like Hampi link express,Udyan express,KK Express and kurla run daily from Banglore.

U may also know that Raichur is at a distance of 45 kms from MantRalaYa.

Via Bus, there are two ways, if u are coming to Raichur from Andhra route like Anantpur,Adoni,Mantralaya then u need to get down at Raichur and then take a bus to Manvi.
If not, if u are coming to Raichur Via Bellary, then u will hit Manvi itself first before Raichur.

Just in case u miss the last bus to chikalparvi from Manvi bus stand, do not panic. U can spend a night in Sri Narayana TeerthaRa AshRama or at Sri Jagannatha Dasara Gudi in Manvi and take the blessings of Sri HariVayu GuruGalu and jagannatha dasaru before coming to Chikalparvi.Rikshaws will take u to these places at some nominal fare of 10 to 15 rupees.
